Ok, this will probably come as a shock to no one...but I'm going to bet (heavily) against Big Brown on Belmont Day. Don't get me wrong, a win by him would be great for horse racing at a time when it REALLY needs a boost...but...that alone would not be the panacea to racing's woes. Between his recent (and not so recent) foot woes and, well, history...he just doesn't seem like a good bet at 1:9, or somewhere thereabouts.
So, a little more on the horse who has my attention. In a strange quirk of breeding fate, it turns out that our hero, Casino Drive, is a half brother to 2006 Belmont Stakes winner, Jazil AND a three-quarter brother to 2007 Belmont Stakes winning filly, Rags to Riches. So, odds are pretty good that the distance won't be much of an issue. And, as far as I know...he has four sound feet.
Better get working on that home equity line withdrawal early...
Cheers,
B
